Thoughts on Downgrading VMware v5 to v4

Are you purchasing new VMware vSphere 5 licenses, but still want to run v4?  No problem, you just downgrade to v4 and you still have rights to run v5 when you’re ready.  However, you do want to keep something in mind.  Although v5 has eliminated the core limitations, v4 still only supports a certain number of cores per processor.  For instance, the Standard and Enterprise editions only supports up to 6 cores (Enterprise Plus supports up to 12 cores).  So if you choose the downgrade path until you’re ready to run v5, make sure that the hardware you will be running fits the core requirements for the VMware version/edition.  This is particularly fitting to the Standard and Enterprise editions.
