10/15/2010 Microsoft Online Services - Top 3 Reasons I Migrated

First, I would like to state that I am the CEO of Champion Solutions Group and we help clients use the Microsoft Cloud to help reduce costs and improve productivity.  But at our core, like many of you, my company is a mid-market enterprise.  We have  130 great employees located in 11 states; we rely heavily on email and collaboration to support our clients, and we are headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida--a place prone to natural disasters, in our case, hurricanes.

Now, the 3 reasons we moved from an on-premise communication and collaboration solution to Microsoft Online Services suite, called BPOS, are:

1. To eliminate the need for a Co-location Data Center.  Considering we are based in Florida, we were replicating our email, and collaboration suite to a co-location data center in case of a Hurricane.  With BPOS we don't need this co-location space. We got rid of 6 servers and have saved about $2,000 a month in co-location fees. NICE!!!!

2. To eliminate Webex. We used to spend $3,000 a month for Webex usage...Not anymore!  Microsoft's Live Meeting is part of the BPOS Suite. Can you say Ca-CHING!!  More savings.

3. To make our people happier. Our It staff hatedbacking up the mail servers, patching them and monitoring them.  Now they spend their time on things that will propel the company forward.

There are other reasons that we moved, but I wanted to share with you why the CEO of a 30-year old Solution Provider decided to moved his internal on-premise mail and communications servers to the cloud.

Please share your thoughts on my post.

Oh, one other thing, please check this link out. It's informative.

Until next time...ENJOY!
